Website Launch Checklist: SEO, Redirects and Indexability Before Go-Live
A safe launch is not a design sign-off. It is proof that real production URLs return the intended response and can be discovered by Google.

Check production, not staging
The highest-risk launch error is a staging noindex, robots block, authentication wall, or canonical that still points at the test host. These faults often look invisible to the team because the page works in its own browser while search engines receive a different response.
Create a URL inventory before launch: pages to retain, URLs that move, URLs that disappear, and the final sitemap. That inventory makes a redirect review testable instead of relying on a list assembled after traffic drops.
Launch in dependency order
Follow the site migration SEO playbook , test moves with the redirect checker , validate discovery with the XML sitemap guide , then use URL Inspection after release.
- 1Remove staging noindex and verify headers as well as HTML.
- 2Test representative old URLs through every redirect hop.
- 3Publish only final 200 canonical URLs in the sitemap.
- 4Confirm the rendered page has its title, canonical and internal links.
- 5Monitor crawl errors and index states after launch.
