Rich Results Test: Validate Eligibility Without Overpromising

A passing rich results test creates eligibility. It does not guarantee a visual treatment or improve a weak page.

Eligibility is not display

A rich results test checks whether Google can parse supported structured data from a URL or code block. It is more useful than a generic schema validator when the question is eligibility for a Google search feature, but it cannot predict whether the feature will appear for a particular query.

Markup must describe information that users can see on the page. A valid Product price that differs from the visible price, or FAQ markup on non-FAQ copy, is not a safe optimization.

Validation checks markup eligibility; Google still decides whether to show a rich result.

Validate the page, then the implementation

Run the schema markup validator , read the structured data guide , and inspect rendering with the JavaScript SEO guide if markup is injected by scripts.

  • Test the final canonical URL, not a staging variant.
  • Fix errors before optional warnings.
  • Re-test after template or CMS changes.
